remembering there is always a path to return to, using the path one has trodden as a springboard and having healthy fear but jumping anyway. C'est la vie and it rocks if you dare :) Nice story.
Take it from a daughter and sister of a lawyer… the best preparation for a career in law is to study English or English Literature. There is so much reading, so much understanding of plot/story development, analyzing motivations and themes, and having these skills makes the best lawyers. :D Even the law is all about storytelling.
And PS. Hello Kristine… I remember you showing up of Day 1 of your professional magazine career. D And yes, you began very well. (The headline "Charity Sweeps The Stakes" is still one of the best headlines ever.)
KAREN! You will always be one of my first editors and editor-friends. :) Excellent point about having a liberal arts background to complement a law degree. And also—I'm almost completely sure that headline was written by either you or Jenny, because I'm just not that witty.
It doesn't have to be Law, no? In my case, I've become more interested in policy and government, and a Law degree would've complemented this. On the other hand, I work with people in the creative industry whose backgrounds range from Engineering to Sociology, and their degrees also enrich their work—and act as fallback in case things don't work out.

I have the same view for my kids. Law will give them clarity in understanding things, but also opens a ton of doors to do anything they want to do.

Now how to hide this comment from my parents? ;)
